Discovery is about to recruit a strategic and operational Director of Research. The Director of Research should have a genuine interest in building high-performing teams and leading people towards aggressive targets in a constantly changing environment – always with a high energy level and a positive attitude. It is vital to foster a culture of innovation, generate big bold ideas and to take courageous decisions based on research data, that will enable Discovery to be ahead of their competitors.

This is a key position where your knowledge of the Nordic markets and ability to provide and support key business units with performance reports, analyses and recommendations based on internal and external audience data, focus groups and competitive intelligence that will inform decisions affecting our current and future business and help drive ‘Discovery Networks Nordics’ to gain a clear competitive advantage.

Within the Nordic region, this role is responsible for leading, motivating and developing the research teams based in the four markets who report into Director Research. The core focus of the team is to guide best practices decision-making around content, marketing product and portfolio, our customers/consumers, commercial strategies, and to identify, understand and surface consumer and industry trends with the potential to impact and drive our business forward. The Director will support the Nordic business leaders and senior stakeholders with high-level, cohesive reporting of the regional portfolio.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Proactively lead the Nordic Research Team of 4 team members.
*. Collaborate and work effectively with executives and cross-functional leads in research, content operations, marketing, digital, sports, Insights & Estimation, and other groups to plan and execute analyses to meet strategic objectives.
* Responsible for identifying the data needed, turning it into actionable insights that lead to strategy.
* Demonstrate deep competency in exploiting internal and external data sources (TAM data, online analytics, third party analysis.)
* Understand the media business and its evolution thoroughly and masters the new research tools that are required to compete successfully in changing environment.
* Successfully implement and manage qualitative & quantitative research projects to inform strategy as needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

* Experience working in the media industry in a research/insights function, with a focus on the Nordic markets.
* Desirable with deep understanding of the issues shaping the TV market – linear and non-linear.
* Understanding of the challenges of being a global company and ability to embrace cultural differences among consumers around the world.
* Strong presenting and storytelling skills, ability to bring insights to life and communicating in a clear and engaging manner, internally as well as externally.
* Extensive experience of people-meter data and other research tools e.g., Techedge, TGI, Google Analytics.
* Experience managing quantitative and qualitative studies.
* Previous experience of working in an international matrix organization.
* Outstanding leadership skills.
* University degree in Business Administration or Economics (MBA/MSc or equivalent).
